DNS Server Changes

Later tonight, we will be to shift our Domain Name Service (DNS) on to the new primary and remote DNS servers in our new data center.

In preparation for this change, we have lowered the "time-to-live" (TTL) interval that domain records exist before they are refreshed from the DNS servers down to only 5 minutes. TTL's are normally set to at least 24 hours. This will help minimize any potential interruptions in service as we proceed with the changes. After we verify proper domain functions we will reset the TTL's to their normal duration.


New Name Servers

In addition to the above changes, we are bringing 4 new Name Servers online tonight. These new servers provide additional stability, redundancy, and geographic diversity to our DNS system. Two of these new servers are located in the US, with the other two being located in Europe. Here's the complete list of the new ICOMEX Name Servers and their IP addresses:

For all ICOMEX customers who either have their domain names registered with our ValueAddedNames.com registry service, or if you have your domain register with Network Solutions and ICOMEX is listed as a Technical Contact for your domain(s), we will automatically update your domain name records with the new Name Server information.

If you are a Network Solutions domain customer and ICOMEX is not listed as a Technical Contact for your domain, please login to your Network Solutions account for your domain and select Add Contact. Choose to add a Technical Contact, and please use HostMaster@icomex.com as the email account to send a contact invitation to. We will take it from there and update your records for you.

For those ICOMEX customers that manage your own domain name records with the registrar of your choice (i.e. GoDaddy, Register.com, NameScout, etc.), you should add the new nameservers and IP addresses (if required by your registrar) to your domain records. Please consult your domain registrar for instructions on how to do this.

Email Server Changes

The final component in our data center move is shifting the email traffic off of our in-house email server to the new email server at the data center. This process will take place late tomorrow evening in order to minimize to potential for lost email.

We will shut down the in-house email server. Then copy over all current email user and inbox files to the new server. Once this is complete, we will change all domain records on our DNS servers to point to the new mail server. All email traffic should begin to flow to the new server within 5 minutes of making this change.

For those ICOMEX clients that use the mail server name for your domain (i.e. mail.yourdomain.com) in your email client software, you will not need to make any changes.

If you are using the mail server IP address, you will need to change that address to:

208.78.219.10

We expect to have these changes successfully completed by Saturday evening. We will continue monitoring performance throughout the weekend and next week to assure that everything is stable and should not cause any interruptions in your normal business activity as we move through the week.

If you, or your site visitors, experience any strange behavior on your web site or email after this final service change is completed, please email Customer Support immediately so we can initiate a work order to remedy the issue.
